It’s Official; Black is the colour of the Summer

With Summer just kicking off this past weekend I thought I would officially declare (if I haven’t yet mentioned it to you in passing) that black is the unofficial colour of the summer.

I will preface that this is based from nothing but my own opinion and note that if you wear black and people joke that it looks like your going to a Johnny Cash concert, that, well,
is not my issue. However I will say that personally the claim is based off of 2 things:

1. White was the colour of this past winter season, how fitting – I like to do things opposite (I don’t follow rules, I also go brunette in the summer)

2. How chic (I just vomited at myself for using the work chic – how CLASSIC I should say) is black, most of the time, as long as it’s not LuLu’s it looks great

Battle of the Baby Kardashians: Fashion Edition

It’s no doubt that the Kardashian family has some fashion cred. In-between the Vogue cover, Dash, Kardashian Kollection and Arthur George, even Rob has his name in the game. So what about the baby Kardashians (aka The a Jenner sisters)? They have both designed for PacSun and Kendall has been spotted on a many a runway this 2014. And as of this week we’ve seen her in the Givenchy F14 campaign.

So let’s battle it out between the younger sisters for once, who has the better style sense, Kendall or Kylie (ps I haven’t even yet decided)

Kendall

To be honest, that Google search sucked. I’m a little underwhelmed and I’ve concluded she dresses like a model, which she apparently is, but I was a little bored. Pause and take a deep breath Kendall fans, she still always looks great and it’s rare there is a fashion slip up… But I couldn’t help but yawn. Kylie

Well Kylie has better Google results but she can’t win by that alone. There is no doubt she has a really questionable short game, it’s sometimes scary but when she’s not wearing shorts she looks killer. I’m trying not to be biased after she came out the gate this year looking better than ever with her new hair, is it #wcw or should I stop there? Bottom line she’s not boring when it comes to fashion.

The clear winner is; Kylie. Do you yay or nay to that?

For about a year I have endlessly been backing Kim and her evolved style, she was completely Vogue worthy. But then, she got married and something fucking happened…

Next to Burberry, Rachel Roy is my new favourite designer for good go-to denim. They are a great fit and there are so many styles available. (My only trouble is the inseam but can’t knock a designer if your a short girl)

Snagged a nice boot cut jean for $19.99 compared at $89 – $70 in savings!

You can check out Hudson Bay as they sometimes have some deals on all things Rachel Roy but if you are just looking for jeans I’ve seen a number of Winners locations carry them. At least if it’s at Winners the full price is still better than retail price. Macey’s is also great for deals on her dresses so if you are in the good old US of A check it out.

CFDA Awards, Oh Rihanna

So, I’m a day late writing about this and realize it’s not new news but I simply couldn’t decide quite how I felt about Rihanna and well if I’m going to talk about the CFDAs how can I not take a stance on Rihanna’s outfit.

In case all you know is about Rihanna’s nipples here is what the CFDA is

There are some BIG names on the list and it’s now proven to the world that the Olsen twins are actually successful and kick ass at what they do. Then there is Rihanna – and I couldn’t agree more that they chose her for fashion icon award. She has evolved in the fashion world, she has a diverse and eccentric fashion sense and can go from basic to ball gowns and look FLAWLESS in either one.

Not to mention she just started her own fashion line and has played a role in mentoring up and coming stylists. From Glamour UK:

“The award isn’t just for her contributions to the fashion industry – hell knows we loved her River Island collection – it’s also for her philanthropic partnership with the MAC AIDS Fund’s Viva Glam campaign. The award is given to someone whose style has made an impact on pop culture around the world.[…]

Previous Fashion Icon Award winners include Lady Gaga, Iman, Kate Moss and Nicole Kidman.”

So it all boils down to, why the hell she chose to wear this…

– At least she wore underwear
– She has banging body

Deductions for;
– The swim cap, I may have been okay with the dress if there was no cap
– It looks like a fusion of Britney and JLO

How cheap is too cheap?

It’s time for you to decide!

With “fast fashion” stores taking over and fighting for your deal eyes, who will reign supreme?

Introducing Forever 21 Red: Camisoles start at $1.80, jeans at $7.80, tees at $3.80, and leggings at $5.80. The idea behind the F21 Red brand is deeper discounts and greater quantities of trendy staples than the typical Forever 21 shop.

I’m all for a good deal but let’s consider the quality and cost per wear and cost per wear in relation to convenience. If you buy one camisole for $1.80 and you get 5 wears max and you have to buy more than one a month wouldn’t have it just been better to buy the $25 camisole that will last for 6 months?

Regardless of how you feel about the quality, the store has rave reviews so far in terms of organization and deals. It’s apparently not like the hell or chaos that most people associate with Forever 21. (Or maybe these reviewers are simply die hard F21 fans)

So will we see Forever 21 Red in Canada anytime soon? Don’t bank on it; they have one store open in South Gate, California and the Retail VP NA says their currently just testing the waters.

Sorry New York Post, you shouldn’t have wrote about them at all. After all any PR is good PR.

With Vogue controversies and all the wedding drama I ask who came out on top, and it was them baby. I’ll note that I’m not even bias as I’m not a huge Kim fan. I find her voice annoying and get joy out of her ugly cry but at the end of the day we all have to admit that she is doing SOMETHING right.

That said, let’s start with the cover.

WHAT’S THE BIG DEAL?
– Kim isn’t a fashion icon (There are some valid arguments to go against this.. But let’s let them have it)
– Kim doesn’t have style (I’m going to start over-using brackets… I’d say Kim does it right 90% of the time these days…)
– She has a sex tape
– Not inspirational (I half agree, 2 divorces later it’s clear she doesn’t always make the best decisions)
– They are celebrity garbage
… And the list and tweets go on for an eternity and people continue to “unsubscribe”

SO WHAT?
– And the Toronto Sun captures this better than how I was even thinking of writing this “Who cares who’s on the cover? Some days it’s a woman famous for being famous. Some days it’s a woman famous for hitting her secretaries.”
– Oh yes, there is more than just the content in terms of what matters, it’s the advertising and the sales (and just alone with all the photos of Kim buying Vogue I’m sure they skyrocketed in sales)
– Sorry, but you have to admit she looks good so kudos Kim (or at-least the production guy who edited her that way)
– We’ve all grown up and made mistakes and we want people to accept us for who we are NOW, so why are people so obsessed with holding on to celebrity personalities of the past?

Beyond all that as I’m sure we could start a debate club on this that would last days on end let’s talk about the fashion at the “royal” wedding of the year.

As all fans hold their breath and wait for the moment her dress is revealed I sighed in disappointment. And maybe that’s harsh but generally it was thoughts if “oh?”

Yes it’s beautiful, hugs the curves and is a classic and classy choice but was it really all that stylish? Was it too reminiscent of Kate’s royal gown? I think maybe that’s my only problem.

If you compare it to the Kris H gown is a worlds apart and completely stunning…. Her previous gowns kind of look like she bought them at the store like a normal person. Sorry Vera. But how about if you compare it to the gowns modelled in Vogue?

And even though I’d die for the McQueen feather gown the back of her chosen dress wins it all.
